No plans for summer break?
If you are
a high school sophomore or junior with no plans for summer break, we’ve got an
idea. The Washington Youth Tour! This June, Walton EMC will select four
delegates to receive an expense-free trip to our nation’s capital.
To
qualify you must:
- Be a high school sophomore or
junior.
- Live or attend a school in
WEMC's service area.
- Have parents' permission to
enter.
- Commit to making the trip on
the dates designated, if selected as a winner.
- Follow the contest rules.
While touring
the White House and other influential landmarks, you will get the opportunity
to meet senators, representatives and other high-ranking political leaders. You will also get the chance to
represent Walton EMC in Atlanta, as you learn more about how our state
government operates.
This program helps students develop lifelong leadership skills while having fun with others from across the country. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to be a part of the Washington Youth Tour!

Willie's Winter Fun Run Results
The totals are in and our first annual Willie’s Winter Wonder 5k Run earned $6,215 in cash donations and toy donations to benefit Toys for Tots!
On December 5, 2009, runners of all ages turned out at Walton EMC headquarters as part of the Run and See Georgia Series. The charity fundraiser was a success and next year’s run is on the calendar for December 4, 2010. Thanks to all runners and volunteers for your effort!

One More Chance
If you missed our energy seminar last night, you have one more chance to attend next Tuesday, November 24, in Snellville.

The Makings of a 2010 Calendar
We're working on our first ever Walton EMC wall calendar, featuring some of our Walton EMC employees (from line technicians to customer service representatives) at work. It'll also be full of coupons you can use to get discounts and free stuff from local businesses. Scholarships are Back!
Once again, Walton EMC and Operation Round Up are offering scholarships for the 2010-2011 school year for incoming college freshmen and veterans.
To qualify for the general scholarship, you must currently be a high school senior or an incoming college freshman with no more than 15 hours of college credit in fall 2010. Your primary residence must be on Walton EMC lines. Ten to 20 $2,500 scholarships will be awarded.
To qualify for the veterans scholarship, you must be a veteran or reservist of the U.S. Armed Forces and your primary residence must be served electricity by Walton EMC. Up to two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded.

Operation Round Up is a program that allows Walton EMC customer-owners to elect to "round up" their bill to the next dollar. The money collected from this program is used to further the goals of local nonprofit organization and to help families in need. The funds for these scholarships do not come out of that fund - they were donated by Walton EMC as a result of a law which allows EMCs to donate unclaimed refunds toward community uses. Save Energy, Save Money with Our Energy Seminars
Looking for a few extra bucks this holiday season? Why not start with your power bill?
In a couple of weeks, we'll be hosting a series of energy saving seminars to teach you how you can save energy - and thus money - on your power bill. Our member services reps have been at it all day planning and practicing for the seminars so that you get the most out of them.
Here's the vital info:
November 10 - Carver Middle School, Monroe
November 16 - Oconee Civic Center, Watkinsville
November 24 - Brookwood High School, Snellville
All programs start at 7 p.m. and are free to attend (you'll even get a little goody just for coming). All you have to do is RSVP by calling 770/267-5551.

Side note: We've had a few questions about the holiday programs that we hold each year. Due to budget constraints and current economic conditions, we decided that our customer-owners might benefit more from these energy saving seminars. We'd love to get your feedback to help us make decisions on future events.

Not Your Ordinary Hay Field
Recently, some Walton EMC employees volunteered to decorate hay bales for a project in conjunction with the UGA Cattlemen to benefit a local food bank.
We put our creativity and handy work together to produce these hay bales:
We got in on the vampire craze - sort of - with a vampire bat -
And our robot - any suggestions for names?

If you're in the Athens or Watkinsville area, take a drive down South Milledge Avenue (across from the UGA Livestock Instructional Arena) and check them out.
There will also be a carnival tonight (weather permitting) from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Come and check out the hay bales, enjoy a little trick-or-treating and grab a bite to eat. Admission is one canned good to be donated to the food bank. Check out the Facebook event for more info.
